What is Logwood Village?
Logwood Village is a Residential Centre (Home) for adults with an Intellectual Disability.

When was Logwood Village started?
Logwood Village has its genesis in the Sunfield Homes Association, which established a small home in a Magaliesberg farmhouse in 1954. Greendale Farm in Howick, Kwa-Zulu Natal was the first official Home and as the years passed, new Sunfield Homes were established in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Western Cape, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

Where is Logwood Village?
Logwood Village is situated on a spacious 18-hectare farm in Nooitgedacht, north west of Johannesburg in the Mogale City Region.

Why was Logwood Village started?
Logwood came into being  in 1986 with the purchase of the Nooitgedacht property and its first 10 residents entered the doors of their new home in January 1987. In 2005 Logwood Village was adopted as the official name, and launched its new corporate identity with its telling tagline, "Embracing People, Embracing Life".

What is the vision of Logwood Village?
To provide holistic care for people with an intellectual disability in a sustainable, protective environment that offers the opportunity for self-development and quality of life.

What makes Logwood Village stand out?
We pride ourselves on our commitment as a progressive organisation that provides optimal independence for the adults in its care and the community in which it works.

What recreational activities take place at Logwood Village?
Amongst other things Logwood Village offers Permanent residence for adults, respite care for short-term placements and contract work in a protective workshop. Our Residents live and work at Logwood where the protective workshop is a veritable buzz of productivity. Residents  meticulously labour alongside community partners from the informal rural settlements nearby. The partnership has produced a vibrant workforce of both disabled and disadvantaged people.

Sport recreation and life skills.
Logwood's residents are intrepid participants in many sporting activities in many sporting activities that include ten-pin bowling, ice skating and floor hockey. Also, over the years Logwood Village residents have competed in the 94.7 Cycle Challenge, Cape Argus Cycle Tour races and The Comrades Marathon.

What events take place at Logwood Village?

  • The Logwood Village 23rd Anniversary Golf Day in March
  • Annually we host a Country Festival at our premises on the last Saturday in May
  • JMBC Logwood Classic mountain bike race in July each year
  • Casual Day, a National Day for People with Disabilities  is celebrated on the first Friday of September each year
  • The Logwood Bike Park is re-opening on Saturday 29th May 2010
