From the Chair - May 2010
We have just held the first of the parent’s social events organised by Tim and Cathy Plewman. This was well supported and I think is a good sign for future activities of this group.
I would like to encourage more parents to join in on the social event. Llew and Jean Drew expressed their appreciation for the restarting of the parents group.
Tim has obtained a donation of gym equipment for the residents from Virgin Active in Sandton. In addition, he has arranged a substantial donation of a few thousand videos for resident’s entertainment. There creates an opportunity here to create a hub for the residents comprising a video shop and coffee shop, run by the residents for the residents.
The roof on Cottage 19 has been refurbished and the maintenance program on the Staff Village is now in hand. Thank you for all to the generous donations from the parents.
The Logwood Festival is scheduled for 29 May 2010 and will be coinciding with the re-opening of the Bike Park. Sign Worx (Pty) Ltd have generously donated all the signage for the various tracks on the cycle park. Tony Turrell is tasked with rebuilding the obstacles and signs.
We are still awaiting feedback on the Medical Aid Scheme and the tax and other implications of this initiative. This should be available shortly. Early feedback indicates that there are several negative issues which mean that the scheme is not going to be suitable for all the residents.
The Fund Raising Committee has held one meeting so far with Maria Longley (previously of Sunshine Centre). The strategy session will follow. The Board has also accepted a proposal from Mike van Rooyen to use his extensive network of contacts for fund raising. Mike is very confident of being able to raise funds for Logwood Village. In the meantime, Lance and Lois are establishing the database from which our fundraising strategy will commence. Shortly, we will approach other members of Logwood Village to assist as well.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions or let us know if you are able to assist in any area. Contact: info@logwoodvillage.co.za for more information.
